Issue of providing Ukraine with TAURUS missiles moving forward - Kuleba

The issue of providing Ukraine with TAURUS (Target Adaptive Unified & Dispenser Robotic Ubiquity System) missiles is moving forward.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced this following talks with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Kyiv, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the report, Kuleba held talks with Baerbock on the development of bilateral relations, increasing the coalition in support of the Formula for Peace, new ways to export grain and provide additional weapons, in particular, strengthening air defense and the transfer of TAURUS missiles.

"We discussed in detail the provision of long-range German TAURUS missiles to Ukraine. Today, we better understand the specifics of the final decision process by the German government. For its part, Ukraine is ready to do everything necessary to speed it up. According to the results of the negotiations, I can say that the option to provide these missiles remains open, and the decision-making process inside Germany is moving forward," Kuleba said.

He expressed gratitude to the German side for the powerful defensive support that the German government provides to Ukraine, in particular in creating an air shield and strengthening the tank power of the Ukrainian army.

He particularly noted the effectiveness of the German Gepard systems, which demonstrated good results in protecting Ukrainian cities and towns from russian terror and saved many lives.

The Minister said that the talks were about an additional strengthening of the air defense of Ukraine on the eve of the new winter season and possible attacks against the energy system by the terrorist state of russia.

The parties also discussed promoting the export of Ukrainian grain, preparations for the International Summit on Food Security and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s humanitarian program Grain From Ukraine, support for the German side of Ukraine on the way to joining the EU.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in August, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the standing delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO PA) Yehor Cherniev said that key parliamentary factions of the Bundestag reached a consensus on the transfer of TAURUS long-range missiles to Ukraine.

Kuleba believes that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has the decision to transfer Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine on his table.

TAURUS missiles with a range of up to 500 km have been produced in Germany since 2005, with 600 in service with the Bundeswehr.
