Agrarians Sow 5.3 Million Hectares With Grain

As of May 26, agricultural enterprises sowed 5.278 million hectares of grain and leguminous crops for the 2023 harvest.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In particular, spring wheat was sown on an area of 261,900 hectares, spring barley - on 763,300 hectares, peas - on 135,600 hectares, oats - on 145,500 hectares, corn - on 3,681,500 hectares, buckwheat - on 83,100 hectares, millet - on 46,100 hectares, other cereals and legumes - on 161,200 hectares.

Over the past week, farmers sowed 585,200 grains and legumes, most of all - in the Chernihiv Region (94,500 hectares).

Farmers sowed sugar beet on an area of 240,900 hectares.

Sunflower was sown on an area of 4,616,400 hectares, most of all - in the Kirovograd Region (576,000 hectares).

Soybean sowing was carried out on an area of 1,635,500 hectares, most of all - in the Kyiv Region (188,790 hectares).

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine plans to sow more than 13 million hectares of agricultural land this year.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food predicts a decrease in the harvest of grain and leguminous crops by 16.6% or 8.8 million tons to 44.3 million tons in 2023 compared to 2022.

At the same time, the gross production of oil crops is expected to increase to 19.2 million tons against 18.2 million tons the previous year.
