Ammunition For HIMARS, Javelin. US Allocates New Aid Package To Ukraine
The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the allocation of additional security assistance to Ukraine.
The Pentagon has said this in a statement, European Pravda reports.
The announcement of the new package comes after President Joe Biden's meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Japan on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
Assistance worth up to USD 375 million is allocated through the application of special presidential powers, which allows the removal of equipment from the warehouses of the Ministry of Defense for Ukraine without additional coordination processes.
The new package includes:
- Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
- 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds;
- Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles;
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
- Laser-guided rocket system munitions;
- Demolition munitions;
- Armored bridging systems;
- Armored medical treatment vehicles;
- Trucks and trailers to transport heavy equipment;
- Logistics support equipment;
- Thermal imagery systems;
- Spare parts and other field equipment.
“The United States will continue to work with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield needs and longer-term security assistance requirements,” the Pentagon said.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the United States has already provided more than USD 36.9 billion in military aid to Ukraine, according to the Pentagon. This raised fears that funds in support of Kyiv could soon be exhausted.
In recent days, however, it turned out that this number is overstated by at least three billion due to an error in accounting for the cost of military equipment in the U.S. Department of Defense.
Recall that Zelenskyy announced negotiations with the leaders of the partner countries on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Japan.
In addition, Zelenskyy welcomes the decision of the United States to support the "aircraft coalition."
