Reznikov Apologizes For Comparing Ukraine's Losses With Death Toll From Earthquake In Turkey
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, apologized for comparing the number of Ukrainian losses during a full-scale war with those killed in an earthquake in Turkey.
He wrote about it on Twitter.
"I sincerely apologize to everyone in Ukraine or Turkey who was offended by my comments in an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Razon. Ukrainians sympathize with the Turkish people. We understand what it is like to bury thousands of innocent people - friends and neighbors. I am grateful to our Turkish friends for their steadfast support and firm position on Crimea since the beginning of the Russian invasion," he wrote.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Reznikov stated in an interview with La Razon that the losses of the Ukrainian army are critically lower than the losses of the Russian occupiers. The total death toll is less than the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey.
"Of course, we have losses because we are at war. But they are critically less than the Russian ones. I can't tell you the number, but I can assure you that the total number is less than the number of people killed in the earthquake in Turkey," he said.
