Population's Deposits With Banks Down 0.6% To UAH 760.9 Billion In May

The volume of funds placed by individuals on bank accounts in hryvnia and foreign currency, according to operational data, decreased by 0.6% month over month to UAH 760.958 billion as of June 1 as against May 1.

Ukrainian News Agency has learned this from the data provided by the National Bank of Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the year, population’s deposits in banks have grown by 5.8% from UAH 719.418 billion.

In May, the hryvnia deposits with commercial banks fell by 0.4% from UAH 509.930 billion.

In May, the foreign currency deposits of the population in the hryvnia equivalent decreased by 0.9% to UAH 251.028 billion.

In May, deposits of legal entities with Ukrainian commercial banks (both in the hryvnia and foreign currency) increased by 1.1% to UAH 726.366 billion.

The average interest rate on hryvnia deposits (average monthly) in May for legal entities decreased by 0.5 p.p. to 4.5%, and for individuals it decreased by 0.3 p.p. to 5.7%.

The rate on foreign currency deposits for legal entities made 1.2%, and 0.6% for the population.

In 2021, the funds deposited by individuals on accounts of commercial banks rose by 6.8% from UAH 674.718 billion to UAH 720.932 billion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2020, the funds deposited by individuals on bank accounts rose by 24.5% from UAH 542.302 billion.

In 2019, the funds deposited by individuals on accounts of commercial banks rose by 8.6% from UAH 501.7 billion to UAH 542.3 billion.

In 2018, the funds deposited by individuals on accounts of commercial banks rose by 7.3% from UAH 472.2 billion.
