New Law On Constitutional Court Takes Effect
The new wording of the law on the Constitutional Court of Ukraine has taken effect.
The law takes effect the day following the date of publication by the Holos Ukrainy newspaper of the Verkhovna Rada (August 2), Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The law provides for changing the structure, powers, and procedure for selecting judges of the Constitutional Court.
In addition, it provides for introducing a competitive procedure for selecting candidates for the position of Constitutional Court judge.
The law increases wages of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to UAH 120,000.
The law introduces the voting by show of hands for Ombudsperson to replace the secret voting.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 13, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted a new wording of the law on the Constitutional Court.
With 226 votes required, 245 lawmakers voted for bill No. 6427-д, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
On April 11, the Verkhovna Rada rejected bill No. 5336-1 and refused to adopt new wording of the Law of Ukraine On Constitutional Court.
Nevertheless, in June, the Parliament obtained new bill No. 6427-д with similar legislative proposals.
