Ukraine Reaches Agreement On Opening UNOPS Office In Ukraine

Ukraine has signed an agreement with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on opening a UNOPS office in Ukraine.

Ukrainian News Agency correspondent reported this from the scene of the event.

The document was signed on behalf of Ukraine by Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Vadym Chernysh and on behalf of UNOPS by UN Under-Secretary-General and UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo.

The office will be established for facilitating coordination of projects and programs that are being implemented in Ukraine by the United Nations, as well as for mobilization and efficient use of international financial aid.

In addition, commencement of the office's operations will create the necessary legal framework for attracting foreign direct investments and grants, which will facilitate implementation of investment projects.

The agreement provides for application of UNOPS international experience in the area of construction of civilian infrastructure, implementation of investment projects, and provision of procurement services.

UNOPS operates in 140 member countries of the United Nations and provides involving management of programs and projects in areas that fall under the mandate of the United Nations.

UNOPS annually accompanies about 2,500 projects worth USD 1 billion.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the United Nations recently announced that it intended to consider the possibility of establishing a new UNOPS office for coordinating projects and programs being implemented in Ukraine.
