Vatican ready to host meeting between leaders of russia and Ukraine for sake of peace - Zelenskyy

The Vatican is ready to host a meeting between the leaders of russia and Ukraine and will continue to work toward making such a meeting possible in the interest of peace. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Monday, July 20, following a meeting with the Secretary of the Holy See, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

Zelenskyy thanked Archbishop Paul Gallagher and Pope Leo XIV for their support of Ukraine. The president noted that the Holy See’s delegation was in Kyiv during the massive attack on the capital by the aggressor country, russia.

“Russia does not want to stop these attacks, but that is precisely why it is so important to continue working for peace. And one of the formats that could contribute to this is a meeting at the leadership level. I thank the Vatican for its willingness to host it and to continue making efforts to ensure that such a meeting can take place,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President also discussed with Gallagher the activities of the Church in Ukraine and Ukraine’s path to the European Union, which the Vatican supports.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 9, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and the aggressor country, russia, are being postponed due to the situation surrounding Iran, at the suggestion of the American side.
