Zelenskyy reports on his dialogue with Fedorov and Syrskyi amid protests in Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he is in dialogue with former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi amid three days of protests in Ukraine.
He made these remarks in an evening address.
“There have been many consultations yesterday and today. Of course, I hear what people are saying. I spoke at length with Mykhailo Fedorov today. I also spoke with Oleksandr Syrskyi today. Decisions regarding the army will be worked out. Thank you to everyone who cares about Ukraine. Thank you to everyone who is defending our positions on the front lines and who is working to bring the war back home—to Russia, the place from which the war came here,” he said.
Fedorov also commented on the dialogue on the evening of July 18: “There is dialogue. I believe everything will work out.”
As a reminder, the publication ZN.UA previously reported, citing sources in Washington, that the authorities are considering offering Fedorov a new role as “miltech czar”—a coordinator for the development of military technologies. In addition, a possible replacement for Oleksandr Syrskyi as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is reportedly being discussed.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov, an expert in military radio technologies, has been appointed as a special advisor to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the development of defense technology sectors. He previously served as an advisor to former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and on July 15, Beskrestnov announced that he had left that position following the minister’s resignation.
Fedorov himself announced his resignation as defense minister on the evening of July 15. He published a post in which he listed what his team had and had not managed to accomplish since January, when he took the helm of the ministry.
