Lithuania receives information that russia is likely planning provocations in Poland and Baltic states - President Nausėda
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that information from Lithuanian intelligence indicates that russia, the aggressor state, is likely planning provocations in Poland or the Baltic states with the aim of testing NATO’s unity. He thus confirmed reports in foreign media that moscow may be preparing limited attacks on critical infrastructure in the region.
It was reported by LRT.
“We have received such signals from our intelligence services. They do not specify a particular place or time, as it is simply impossible to determine that. It is possible that the opposing side has not even completed the planning process yet, and we may only be aware of the planning itself or the intended target,” said the Lithuanian president.
According to Nausėda, Lithuania has recently strengthened the protection of its critical transportation and energy infrastructure in response to this threat.
“So yes, I cannot deny that we have such information and that it concerns targeted operations—not large-scale ones, but targeted kinetic operations that, in all likelihood, will be directed against critical infrastructure,” he noted.
The Lithuanian president did not cite specific evidence to support this assessment or identify potential targets. However, he stated that the authorities are preparing for a wide range of possible attacks that could disrupt the functioning of key infrastructure.
“Anything that could halt the operation of these facilities is significant, since they are important not only in and of themselves but also because they ensure the functioning of the entire system, particularly our synchronization with the continental European power grid,” Nausėda explained.
As a reminder, the United States previously warned Poland that russia, the aggressor state, is planning an armed “provocation” on Polish territory to test NATO’s resolve. Moscow has not yet made a final decision on carrying out such an operation.
Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski suggested that russia might carry out an operation under a false flag on Polish territory. According to him, the use of Ukrainian drones is also a possibility.
