The National Bank will update the text on the 2,000-hryvnia banknote due to the font's resemblance to one of russian origin.

It was reported by the NBU, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

"We have analyzed the materials from the public discussion, in particular the arguments regarding the stylistic similarity between the denomination inscription on the banknote—created by the National Bank’s artists—and one of the unofficial Cyrillic adaptations of a font of Russian origin," the statement reads.

In light of this, the National Bank of Ukraine has decided to update the stylistic design of the denomination inscription on the new banknote. The graphic design of the letters in the denomination will be created in full accordance with the appearance of the letters in the official Cyrillic version of the Bickham Script font, without any artistic variations.

Since the banknote has not yet entered production, these design changes will not affect the timeline for its introduction into circulation. The banknote, as previously announced, will be introduced into circulation on September 4, 2026.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Andrii Pyshnyi, the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, announced the expansion of the national currency’s denomination range—a new 2,000-hryvnia banknote will be introduced into circulation on September 4, 2026.
