Coalition of the Willing will meet in Paris to discuss strengthening Ukraine's air defense - Euronews
France is preparing to host a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing to discuss support for Ukraine, particularly the strengthening of its air defense. Euronews reports this.
According to a statement from the French presidency, the allies will seek to “strengthen” a new sense of unity and cooperation in support of Ukraine.
According to an adviser to the French president, the goal is to demonstrate that Western allies continue to support Ukraine and that moscow cannot count on “war fatigue.”
Coalition leaders will focus on cooperation in the field of air defense, in particular on the recently announced U.S. plans to grant Ukraine a license to produce interceptor missiles for the MIM-104 Patriot air defense systems. They will also discuss the creation of a missile defense system.
As for security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a hypothetical ceasefire, according to the French presidency, plans for the deployment of multinational forces are ready. However, these plans may change, given that the prospect of a ceasefire still seems remote.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to be in Paris during the Coalition of the Willing meeting.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 9, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would soon receive a shipment of missiles for the Patriot air defense system capable of intercepting russian ballistic missiles.
As a reminder, on July 10, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense stated that in June, Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 89% of targets, but the effectiveness of ballistic missile interception had fallen to 40%.
