US Department of War reports that Pentagon did not have time to spend billion dollars on purchase of weapons for Ukraine
The US Department of War did not use USD 910 million allocated for military assistance to Ukraine on time.
This is announced in the report of the auditors of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
According to the published report for the first quarter of 2026, the specified amount of USD 910 million is no longer available for new contracts with American weapons manufacturers, since the specified deadline for making new financial commitments has expired.
In total, since February 2022, the US Congress has allocated USD 33.51 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) program.
Currently, financial resources are distributed as follows:
- USD 19.21 billion (57%) - actually spent on defense products and services that have already been transferred to Ukraine as of March 2026.
- USD 13.49 billion - already distributed for orders in the industry that are currently being implemented and have not yet been paid for.
- USD 110 million - allocated, but not yet distributed for specific contracts.
At the same time, Pentagon rules provide that overdue appropriations do not mean automatic "burning" of money. Although these funds are closed for new agreements, they can be used over the next 5 years to cover additional costs for previously signed contracts.
