Trump says that Zelenskyy and putin don't know how to start dialogue

US President Donald Trump stated that the leaders of Ukraine and russia need to begin direct dialogue to end the war, but at this point, the parties do not know exactly how to organize this. He made these remarks during his speech at the G7 summit in France.

According to Trump, in recent days he has held face-to-face talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and also had a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin. He described both interactions as very successful and specifically noted the high number of casualties on the battlefield.

“They're losing a lot of people. A lot of soldiers are losing soldiers. Both are losing a lot. Russia's losing more because they're the offensive ones. And when you're offensive in war, you lose more. Pretty simple,” Trump noted.

The American leader emphasized that during Sunday’s call, he shared his thoughts with the Russian dictator and believes it is time for the leaders of the two countries to find common ground. In his view, the main obstacle to starting negotiations is the lack of a clear format for such communication.

“We had a very good conversation with President Putin and a very, very good conversation with President Zelenskyy. I think they both want to do something. They just don't know how to do it. They want to do it. They just don't know how,” Trump said.

The White House chief also added that once the issue surrounding Iran is resolved, ending the russian-Ukrainian war will become Washington’s top foreign policy priority. According to his estimates, active hostilities are extremely bloody and claim the lives of about 25,000 people every month.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 16, Zelenskyy stated that he had met with Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit, which is currently taking place in France.

The meeting was a continuation of a closed-door session that also included French President Emmanuel Macron. It marked the first meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump in nearly four months.
