Russian frigate fires warning shots at British yacht in English Channel - Reuters
Sailors aboard the russian frigate "Admiral Grigorovich" fired warning shots at a civilian yacht near the Isle of Wight in the English Channel that approached the ship on Tuesday. A source familiar with the incident on Tuesday, June 16, told Reuters about this.
The British Ministry of Defense stated that it is investigating reports of an incident in the English Channel between a russian frigate and a British vessel. The russian frigate "Admiral Grigorovich" was under surveillance by a Royal Navy vessel.
"A yacht registered in the UK claimed that the Russian naval vessel fired warning shots from a distance of approximately 457 meters," the source said. "The incident took place approximately more than 20 km south of the Isle of Wight, outside British territorial waters," the report states.
The source reported that this incident is being treated as an isolated case.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the morning of June 14, the British Armed Forces detained the SMYRTOS, a vessel belonging to russia’s “shadow fleet,” in the English Channel.
