Garden strawberries continue to fall in price in Ukraine

The establishment of warm sunny weather stimulates the active ripening of garden strawberries in Ukrainian farms, as a result, the supply of this berry on the market is growing rapidly, which provokes a sharp decrease in selling prices in this segment.

This is stated in the report of the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that if the week before last, average wholesale prices for garden strawberries in Ukraine did not fall below UAH 100-190 per kilogram, then last week they began to decline more significantly, especially in the southern and central regions of the country.

In particular, producers have already offered this berry last week at a price of UAH 80-170 per kilogram, which is on average 15% cheaper than the week before.

Producers are forced to reduce prices for garden strawberries due to the rapid growth in the supply of berries from local farms, while demand for this product remains relatively stable.

At the same time, most market operators note a fairly high percentage of substandard berries in the current season, as heavy rainfall has noticeably reduced the quality characteristics of the product.

It is noted that today prices for garden strawberries in Ukraine are already on average 11% lower than for the same period last year.

At the same time, key market players do not rule out further price reductions in this segment starting next week.

They argue their opinion by saying that the supply on the market continues to grow, while the quality of the offered berries does not always satisfy consumers.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, prices for local garden strawberries have been falling in Ukraine for two weeks in a row.
