Number of non-bank financial institutions decreases by 5 companies in May - NBU
The number of participants in the non-bank financial market in May 2026 decreased by five institutions, to 744 (from 749); the number of banks holding a banking license remained unchanged at 59.
This is stated in a report by the NBU, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
In May, at the applicant’s initiative, the license of one financial company was revoked. The licenses of three other financial companies were revoked by force. In addition, the National Bank approved an expansion of the scope of one insurance company’s license to include the provision of financial services.
Five non-bank financial institutions were removed from the registers. In particular, one insurance broker was removed from the register at the applicant’s initiative. Four financial companies were forcibly removed from the registers.
As of June 1, 2026, the following were operating in the non-bank financial services market: 391 financial companies (down from 395), 47 non-life insurers (number unchanged), 10 life insurers (number unchanged), one insurer with special status (number unchanged), 97 pawnshops (number unchanged), 79 credit unions (number unchanged), one lessor (number unchanged), 46 insurance brokers (previously 47), and 72 debt collection companies (number unchanged).
The number of banking groups (15) and non-banking financial groups (39) remained unchanged.
The payment market features 13 payment systems established by residents (previously 12), including two state-owned systems (number unchanged), and 10 international payment systems (number unchanged).
At the same time, the market for financial payment service providers includes 16 payment institutions (number unchanged), 11 financial institutions authorized to provide payment services (number unchanged), one bank—an issuer of electronic money (number unchanged), and one postal operator (number unchanged).
Other entities operating in the payment market include 100 commercial agents (previously 95), 32 payment service technology operators (number unchanged), and six non-financial payment service providers (previously four). Information on all payment market participants is available here.
During May, the National Bank received 208 requests from market participants regarding registration and licensing matters. The number of requests regarding financial companies and lessors was 91, insurers – 37, credit unions and pawnshops – 16, and banks – 64.
