Ukrainians purchase smallest amount of foreign currency this year in May - USD 231 million

Net currency purchases by households in May of this year fell by 34% to the equivalent of USD 231 million.

This is according to data from the National Bank, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

This is the lowest volume of currency purchased so far this year.

Non-cash currency purchases in May totaled USD 360 million, while sales amounted to USD 418 million.

Cash currency purchases in May decreased to USD 1.778 billion, while sales rose to USD 1.490 billion, respectively.

Thus, net purchases of cash currency by the population last month amounted to USD 288 million.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, net currency purchases by the population in March of this year increased 1.9-fold to USD 1,019 million in equivalent.

Net currency purchases by the population in April of this year fell by a factor of 2.9 to USD 349 million in equivalent terms.
