The ministry also said that such incidents pose a threat to security in the Black Sea region and for NATO countries.

"Such incidents demonstrate the russian federation's lack of respect for international law and endanger not only the safety of Romanian citizens, but also the collective security of NATO," the Romanian Defense Ministry said.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry called the incident a "serious escalation" on the part of the russian federation and reported an appeal to NATO.

As a reminder, Romania raised fighter jets due to a russian drone attack on the Odesa Region on May 19, and also warned the population near the border with Ukraine about the threat.
