United States did not sign statement of fifty UN countries condemning russian threats to embassies in Kyiv
Almost 50 member states of the United Nations issued a joint statement in which they strongly condemned the recent threats by the russian federation to foreign diplomatic institutions and embassies in Ukraine, but the United States of America refused to sign this collective document.
It was announced by France24, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The text of the joint statement was published by Ukraine's representative to the UN Andrii Melnyk.
In the document, European countries, Japan, South Korea and other partners emphasized that they consider any threats to the security of diplomatic missions that continue their work in the Ukrainian capital during the war unacceptable.
In parallel, during the UN Security Council meeting, Secretary-General António Guterres also expressed his position: he stated that he was deeply concerned by recent official statements by the leadership of the russian federation regarding the intention to launch successive and systematic strikes on Ukrainian defense enterprises in Kyiv, as well as on government decision-making centers and military command posts.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor country, russia, announced the start of systematic strikes on defense enterprises, so-called "decision-making centers" and command posts in Kyiv, which is why it called on foreigners to leave the capital, and residents of the capital not to approach military and administrative infrastructure facilities.
EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová stated that EU diplomats will not leave Kyiv after russia's threats of "systemic strikes" and the aggressor state's call for foreigners to leave the Ukrainian capital.
