Ihnat tells how satellites record Oreshnik and Iskander launches from Kapustin Yar

The Ukrainian military uses space and other types of intelligence to track missile launches from the russian Kapustin Yar test site. The air defense system reacts instantly, since each launch of a large missile is accompanied by a powerful release of energy and a thermal flash, which satellites record from afar. Yurii Ihnat, head of the communications department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told this in an interview with Radio NV.

According to the military, one should not count on international procedures or official warnings from russia. "This or that launch - is a flash, a "danger" sign on. When exactly, how exactly, the enemy will not inform. Of course, they warn that they are conducting some exercises, closing the airspace, these are all established procedures. But a launch may be carried out - you understand, it is russia. Who they will warn or not, no one is counting on them," Yuri Ihnat emphasized.

At the same time, he explained why it is difficult for the Air Force to identify the exact type of missile in the first minutes after launch. At the Kapustin Yar training ground, the russians test not only the latest developments such as the Oreshnik, but also launch the S-400 or Iskander systems. Due to the extremely high speed of ballistic targets, the enemy's constant maneuvers with overlapping skies, and the similarity of the heat traces of different types of weapons, it is almost impossible to determine the model in the first seconds. The situation is also complicated by the fact that the occupiers often conduct simulated launches to test equipment or simply to intimidate.

"It is also not possible to immediately determine what kind of launch it is. Therefore, there may even be an alarm when the launch is some kind of simulation or for the purpose of those tests that I just talked about. But to know for sure that it is the "Oreshnik" or not, you can already have more information, the enemy is going to do it, is not going to do it, etc.," the spokesman noted.

Despite the fact that some alarms are caused by false launches or preventive measures, the Air Force calls never to ignore danger signals. Each warning is based on real data, so a signal about a threat from Kapustyny ​​Yar is a reason to immediately take cover, because it is not worth risking your life.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the night of May 23-24, the occupiers used the Oreshnik missile, striking Bila Tserkva. Fragments of the missile hit a garage cooperative, there were no casualties.

Later, a video was published online, allegedly filmed in the occupied part of Donetsk region. It shows the fall of warhead simulators. This was observed in Bila Tserkva during the attack, as well as in Dnipro and Lviv, when they were hit with Oreshnik missiles.

The OSINT project CyberBoroshno confirmed that the video was shot by a camera installed in the eastern part of occupied Donetsk. The camera was pointed north-northwest. In its field of vision are Avdiivka, Yasynuvata, Kramatorsk, Izyum, Vovchansk and russian Belgorod.
