Chornobyl Museum in Kyiv lost about 40% of its exhibits due to russian attack
Following the russian attack on the night of May 24, approximately 40% of the museum artifacts from the exhibition at the Chornobyl National Museum in Kyiv were irretrievably lost.
It was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that following the strike, rescue workers, together with museum staff, immediately began evacuating the exhibits.
They managed to save items from the storage facilities, a painting by Maria Prymachenko, and the Ukrainian flag that was raised at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant after its de-occupation in 2022.
However, as a result of this strike, approximately 40% of the museum’s exhibits have been irretrievably lost.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also noted that rescuers spent over 15 hours extinguishing fires that broke out following the russian federation’s combined attack. The dismantling of hazardous structures is ongoing.
In Kyiv, police have already received over 540 reports of damaged property.
As a reminder, on the night of May 24, russian troops carried out a massive ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital.
During the large-scale nighttime shelling of the capital on the night of May 24, the Ancient Kyiv State Historical and Architectural Reserve came under fire from russian troops. As a result of the attack, the historic heart of the capital suffered significant damage.
Also, during the nighttime attack on Kyiv, the main office of Ukrposhta on Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square was damaged.
