Ukrainian drones hit Syzran refinery in russia: over 800 km from border
On the night of May 21, the Special Operations Forces, together with the Unmanned Systems Forces, hit the Syzran refinery in the Samara Oblast of the russian federation, which is more than 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. A large-scale fire was recorded at the facility.
This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Another of our long-range sanctions against russian oil refining, and we continue in this direction. This time, the Syzran refinery, the distance from our border is more than 800 kilometers. Thanks to the soldiers of the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Special Operations Forces for their accuracy," the message says.
The Special Operations Forces specified that Deep-strike units hit the Syzran oil refinery of the state company Rosneft in the Samara Oblast on the night of May 21 together with the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A large-scale fire was recorded at the facility with a capacity of up to 9 million tons of oil per year, located more than 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
It is indicated that the Syzran refinery, in addition to civilian needs, supplies fuel to russian military aviation and military units in the center and south of the russian federation. Oil products are also exported from there via the Volga River and the Caspian Sea.
"Damage to the enemy's oil refining infrastructure reduces its economic and logistical capabilities to wage war against Ukraine," the Special Operations Forces emphasized.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, according to Reuters, citing its own sources in the oil refining industry, the russian Ryazan Oil Refinery suspended production activities after a successful attack by Ukrainian drones last week.
