The United Kingdom has authorized the import of diesel and jet fuel produced abroad from russian oil. The government took this step amid a sharp spike in fuel prices triggered by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The United States had made a similar decision the day before. It was reported by Reuters.

A special license, which takes effect this Wednesday, allows the import of fuel refined from russian oil in third countries, specifically in India and Turkey. At the same time, importing companies are required to maintain strict records of such transactions. This license is valid indefinitely, but the government reserves the right to periodically review the terms or revoke the permit entirely.

In addition, London has issued a temporary license valid until January 1 of next year. It permits the maritime transport of liquefied natural gas from the russian “Sakhalin-2” and “Yamal LNG” projects, including the provision of related transportation, financing, and brokering services.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, yesterday, May 18, it became known that the US Department of the Treasury extended the exemption regarding russian crude oil. It allows countries to purchase this oil and was introduced in early March amid an energy crisis caused by the consequences of the war against Iran.

As a reminder, on April 25, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in an interview with the Associated Press that Washington does not plan to extend the exemption allowing the purchase of russian oil.

Also yesterday, India announced that it would continue to purchase russian oil, regardless of whether the US extends the exemption or not.
