Zelenskyy congratulates Ukrainian women on Mother's Day

On Sunday, May 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Ukrainian mothers with congratulations on their professional holiday. In his address, published on social networks, the head of state emphasized the special role of women in times of full-scale war.

The President noted that today the word "thank you" takes on special meaning, because it is maternal love that is boundless and fundamental for every family. He emphasized that modern realities have radically changed the lives of Ukrainians, but mothers demonstrate incredible fortitude.

"Ukrainian mothers today are about incredible endurance, courage, bravery and love that helps to endure," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.

The head of state thanked every woman for her life, faith in her children, daily prayers and support, which becomes protection for Ukrainian soldiers and families.

History of the holiday

Ukraine traditionally celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. This holiday was officially introduced into the Ukrainian calendar in 1999 by decree of the second President Leonid Kuchma. This year, the date coincided with May 10, the day when the holiday received its official status in Ukraine 27 years ago.
