Ukraine wants to obtain data from the European Union on Ukrainians currently under temporary protection in the EU. This is stated in a press release from the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

In particular, it is reported that during a working visit to the United States, Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity Denys Uliutin held a meeting with European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner.

During the meeting, the parties focused, in particular, on the issue of the likely termination of the temporary protection regime for Ukrainians in the EU after March 2027. The minister emphasized that it is important for Ukraine to avoid legal uncertainty and fragmentation of approaches regarding Ukrainians who are forced to stay in European Union countries due to the war.

"Our position is clear: we want Ukrainians to return home, but this must be a voluntary and informed decision. The key factor for such a decision remains security, which depends on the situation on the ground and our Armed Forces. Therefore, people should have clear, predictable and lawful options for continued stay in the EU until conditions for their return are ensured," Uliutin noted.

In this context, according to the report, the minister emphasized the importance of obtaining data on Ukrainians under temporary protection in EU countries, particularly regarding vulnerable population groups, for the purpose of further planning return policies and preparing communities.

The parties also discussed issues of legal migration and the integration of citizens into the labor market, the preservation of Ukraine’s human capital for future recovery, and the role of Unity Hubs as a tool for maintaining contact with Ukrainians abroad.

Uliutin noted that the first Unity Hub, opened in Berlin, is already seeing significant demand among Ukrainian citizens — nearly 500 consultations were provided in the first two weeks of operation.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 15 in Berlin (Germany), Europe’s first Unity Hub for Ukrainians began operations, where people can receive consultations on returning to Ukraine, as well as participate in educational and cultural events.
