Russian side disrupts ceasefire - Zelenskyy
The russian side has violated the ceasefire declared by Ukraine on May 6. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
"Following yesterday’s brutal attacks on our cities and communities—Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kramatorsk, and others—the Russian army has continued active combat operations and terrorist shelling throughout the day. Russia’s choice is a clear rejection of peace and the preservation of lives… As of today, we confirm that the Russian side has violated the ceasefire. Based on the evening reports from our military and intelligence, we will determine our next steps,” he stated.
Zelenskyy noted that assault operations are ongoing across all key sections of the front; since the start of this day alone, the russian army has carried out nearly 30 assault operations, with more than 20 airstrikes recorded—using over 70 aerial bombs—just during last night and this morning.
According to him, as of 10 a.m., the russian army had committed 1,820 violations of the ceasefire—shelling, attempted assaults, airstrikes, and the use of drones.
"Ukraine has clearly stated that it will respond in kind, given the persistent Russian appeals through the media and social networks asking for a ceasefire during the Moscow parade. It is obvious to all reasonable people that a full-scale war and the daily killing of people make this a bad time for public 'celebrations,'" the President noted.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the “ceasefire” initiated by Zelenskyy was to begin on the night of May 5–6.
On April 29, russian dictator vladimir putin held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The kremlin stated that putin proposed declaring a short-term ceasefire on May 9, and Trump allegedly supported this initiative.
Zelenskyy stated that russia, the aggressor country, had not discussed the implementation of a short-term ceasefire on May 9 with Ukraine; no one had contacted Kyiv on this matter, nor had any official proposals been sent.
