US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the launch of Operation Freedom, which will involve significant military forces, including destroyers, more than 100 aircraft and 15,000 troops, to escort merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

This was reported by CENTCOM on the X network.

"On May 4, US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin supporting Operation Freedom to restore freedom of navigation for merchant shipping through the Strait of Hormuz," the message says.

The command noted that they are acting on the instructions of US President Donald Trump and will provide escort for vessels passing through one of the key routes of world trade.

"CENTCOM will provide support to merchant vessels seeking to freely pass through this important corridor of international trade," the department emphasized.

It is noted that the operation will involve guided missile destroyers, land-based and sea-based aircraft, unmanned systems of various types, as well as about 15 thousand military personnel.

Recall that Iranian Islamists have announced that they will establish new rules for shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
