After drone attack, fire breaks out again at oil refinery in Tuapse
On the night of April 28, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in Tuapse, Krasnodar Krai, russia, following a drone attack, according to the region’s emergency response headquarters. This is the same refinery that had been burning for several days straight and caused an environmental disaster in the russian city.
This is reported by russian sources and Ukrainian monitoring channels.
Russian authorities claim the fire was caused by falling drone debris.
Local residents reported a series of explosions in the city. Analysts working with open-source data have preliminarily determined that the strike may have targeted the tank farm near the ELOU-AVT-12 unit.
What is known about the fire at the Tuapse refinery?
The Tuapse oil refinery has been attacked before. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during strikes on April 16 and 20, hits on the tank farm were recorded, followed by fires.
The second fire, which broke out after the attack on April 20, was not extinguished until April 24. About 300 people and 77 pieces of equipment were involved in the firefighting efforts.
Telegram channels also reported that following one of the strikes, an oil slick covering up to 10,000 square meters appeared in the Black Sea, and substances described as “oil rain” were observed falling from the sky.
On April 20, residents of Tuapse complained about an “oil rain” that fell in the city amid a massive fire following a drone attack.
On April 24, russian media reported that Tuapse faces the threat of a ruined tourist season due to pollution of the sea and coastline resulting from the drone attack on the oil refinery.
