Refinery in Leningrad Oblast attacked at night suspends operations - Reuters
The Kirishi Petroleum Organic Synthesis (Kirishinefteorgsintez; KINEF) oil refinery in the Leningrad Oblast of the aggressor country russia has suspended operations after a Ukrainian drone attack that took place on the night of March 25-26.
Reuters reported this, citing its own sources on Thursday, March 26
The agency's unnamed interlocutors said that as a result of the drone attack, several fires broke out on the territory of the enterprise. Two main and some auxiliary units were damaged.
One of the Reuters sources added that it is currently difficult to estimate the time required to repair the damaged units.
Reuters notes that in 2024, KINEF refined 17.5 million tons of oil (330,000 barrels per day). This is about 6.6% of the total refining volume in russia. That year, the refinery produced 7.1 million tons of diesel fuel, 6.1 million tons of fuel oil, 2 million tons of gasoline and 600,000 tons of bitumen.
Earlier today, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the Ukrainian military had attacked the KINEF oil refinery at night. According to the command, several primary oil refining units and two tanks caught fire as a result of the "raids."
The General Staff noted that KINEF is one of the three largest oil refineries in the aggressor country. The company has an installed refining capacity of 20-21 million tons.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, yesterday, March 26, Reuters informed that the latest Ukrainian attacks, in particular on ports on the Baltic Sea, led to the fact that russia has temporarily lost 40% of its oil export capacity.
