What is being said about the resumption of flights to Ukraine?
Ukrainian airports have been closed since the beginning of russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, Ukraine has already created a working group at the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development. It acts as an advisory body and creates proposals for the leadership of the Ministry of Development "to take measures to resume civil aviation flights" and protect the relevant critical infrastructure.
Polish airline LOT announced its readiness to resume flights to Ukraine in six weeks after the establishment of sustainable peace and the recognition of the country's airspace as safe.
Ryanair also wants to return to Ukraine. The Irish airline will take two months to resume flights to Ukraine, but only after the fighting is officially over.
On April 21 and 22, 2025, users of the Flightradar flight tracking service observed an unknown aircraft called Welcome flying around Lviv. Residents of the city heard the hum of engines. However, the government denied that the flights of the unknown aircraft were related to the resumption of air traffic. According to media reports, it was a military transport plane.
