Sean Penn ignores 2026 Oscars ceremony because of Zelenskyy
Hollywood actor and director Sean Penn did not attend the 2026 Oscars ceremony, despite receiving the award for Best Supporting Actor. This is reported by the Ukrainian News Agency.
Sean Penn's victory at the 2026 Oscars
Sean Penn was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in the film "One Battle After Another". Members of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave the largest number of votes to him, so the actor became the winner of the award.
However, Penn himself did not appear at the ceremony, so the statuette was presented without the presence of the winner.
This award was already the third for the actor. Previously, he received the Oscar in 2004 for Best Actor, and the second time in 2009 in the same category.
It is worth noting that Penn previously left one of his Oscars in Ukraine until the end of the war.
Why didn't Penn come to the Oscar ceremony?
The actor previously publicly stated that he would boycott the ceremony. He criticized the organizers for not giving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy the opportunity to deliver a speech at the 2022 awards ceremony.
As previously reported, in 2024, Sean Penn made a documentary about Ukraine.
