Trump extends US sanctions against russia for another year
US President Donald Trump has extended for another year the sanctions imposed on the aggressor country russia for its aggression against Ukraine, starting in 2018. The relevant decree is published on the website of the Federal Reserve.
The document says that Trump signed the extension of sanctions against russia on Thursday, February 19.
These are the restrictions that were first introduced in the fall of 2018 and supplemented after the start of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. These sanctions were due to expire on March 6 this year. Trump extended them for another year.
In addition, the American leader extended the national emergency, which was introduced by Decree 13660 in 2014 due to the danger and threat to the national security of the United States.
"The actions and policies (of the Russian authorities) addressed in these Executive Orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States," the document says.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 5, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that further US sanctions against russia would depend on the results of negotiations on Ukraine.
Not long before, Bloomberg reported, citing its own sources, that the United States has prepared several options for additional sanctions against russia, but there are no signs of work on their implementation.
