Kyiv closes entry for trucks due to heavy snowfall
Difficult weather conditions and heavy precipitation in Kyiv have resulted in restrictions on the entry of heavy and large vehicles. The decision came into force at 10 p.m. on February 15.
Representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration and the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Mykola Kalashnyk have reported this.
This step is necessary to ensure the efficient operation of snow removal equipment and prevent traffic collapse on the streets of the city.
There is already a significant accumulation of trucks at the entrances to the capital, which creates difficulties for traffic and hinders the work of road services.
Mykola Kalashnyk assured that specialists are working in an intensified mode to ensure traffic on the main routes and minimize the effects of the bad weather. Utilities are urging drivers not to leave their cars on the roadsides, as improperly parked cars that will impede snow removal will be immediately evacuated.
The city authorities have also asked residents to use public transportation instead of private cars during the bad weather. This will help reduce traffic jams and allow special equipment to clear the roads faster. A separate warning concerns pedestrians, who are asked to be as careful as possible on sidewalks and cross the roadway only in designated places, given the difficulty of braking vehicles on snowy areas.
As a reminder, the thaw was followed by fog and rain, and then a sharp cold snap: the weather forecaster warned of a weather "swing."
