Bannon in correspondence with Epstein declared his intention to overthrow Pope Francis - CNN
In correspondence from June 2019, former adviser to US President Donald Trump Steve Bannon wrote to Jeffrey Epstein about his intention to "overthrow" Pope Francis. The letter also mentions the Clinton family.
This is evidenced by documents from the recently published "Epstein files", CNN writes.
According to the correspondence from 2019, Bannon and Epstein discussed actions aimed at undermining the authority of Pope Francis, whom the former Trump adviser considered an opponent and accused of supporting "globalist elites".
"We will overthrow Francis. The Clintons, Xi, Francis, EU - come on, brother," Bannon wrote to Epstein in June 2019.
The reports also mention the book In the Closet of the Vatican by French journalist Frederic Martel, in which the author claims that most of the Vatican clergy are homosexual.
Bannon met with Martel and then considered the possibility of making a film version of the book. In correspondence with Epstein, he suggested that he join the project as an executive producer.
Martel told reporters that during the meeting he told Bannon that a deal for the film was impossible because the rights to the film were owned by his publishers, who had already signed a contract with another company. He also noted that, in his opinion, the former Trump adviser sought to use the book in a campaign against the Pontiff.
Pope Francis biographer Austen Ivereigh said that Bannon probably expected to use Martel's work to discredit and weaken the Pope.
"I think he seriously miscalculated about the substance of the book - and about Pope Francis," he added.
