The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture has issued a positive conclusion on the results of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure for the Polonyna Runa wind farm construction project.

The decision is aimed at strengthening the country's energy security and opens up the possibility of building dozens of new wind turbines with a total capacity of over 156 MW.

According to Minister Oleksii Sobolev's message, the decision was made with four key requirements in mind: energy sustainability and security, community interests, environmental protection and legal certainty.

The conclusion was made exclusively within the framework of the law after a full review of the EIA materials and all received appeals.

The Ministry emphasizes that the Polonyna Runa wind farm project is part of the state strategy for the development of decentralized generation, which aims to protect the Ukrainian energy system from destruction as a result of russian attacks.

The project envisages the installation of 30 modern wind power plants with a capacity of up to 5.5 MW each. The projected annual output will be about 480 GWh of electricity, which is commensurate with the needs of about 235,000 households.

On completion of the project in the Turi Remety community, Ukraine will receive an additional 156 MW of wind generation capacity. The implementation of the initiative is the result of joint work of the community, the region and business and is an important step towards strengthening the country's energy independence and resilience.

"I would also like to add about energy security. Now more than ever, we need to build a decentralized energy system that is much more resistant to military risks. We also continue the policy of "green transition": by 2030, more than a quarter of all electricity in Ukraine should be generated from renewable sources - this is our commitment on the way to the EU," the statement said.
