UK joins PURL program and will buy USD 200 million worth of weapons for Ukraine
The United Kingdom has joined the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) program, under which Ukraine's partner countries purchase weapons from the United States for the needs of the Ukrainian army. London has allocated more than USD 200 million for this purpose.
According to Politico, British Defense Secretary John Healey has stated this.
The head of the British defense ministry confirmed to reporters that London has allocated GBP 150 million pounds (USD 204 million - ed.) for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine under the PURL program.
"Together, we must provide Ukraine with the critical air defense it needs in response to Putin’s brutal onslaught," Healey said.
Politico writes, citing sources, that three-quarters of NATO countries have now pledged to join the PURL program. Australia and New Zealand have also joined the program. In addition, the sources said, Japan is expected to announce non-lethal assistance soon.
The sources added that NATO officials had previously considered several options for restructuring the PURL program to ensure its sustainability. It relies heavily on NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's personal appeals to allies to contribute. So far, no decision has been made on this issue.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in early February it became known that Sweden and Denmark will jointly finance the purchase of Triden air defense systems for Ukraine. These systems are designed to combat drones.
In late January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would soon receive a military aid package from France which will include aircraft bombs and air defense ammunition.
We also wrote that in December 2025, Romania and Croatia joined the PURL program.
