Drones hit Volgograd oil refinery: massive fire breaks out after night attack

On the night of February 11, Volgograd was subjected to a massive drone attack - after a series of explosions, a local oil refinery caught fire. This was reported by monitoring Telegram channels, russian publics, the Governor of the Volgograd Oblast of the russian federation Andrey Bocharov and the russian Ministry of Defense.

Around midnight, residents of the city and suburbs heard several loud explosions. According to monitoring channels, the UAVs probably targeted the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery, after which a large-scale fire broke out at the facility.

Later, the governor said that the drones attacked "energy and civil infrastructure facilities in the Volgograd Oblast." According to him, there is a "fire on the territory of the plant in the south of Volgograd", while "there are no casualties."

"Employees of operational services and municipal formations are carrying out work to search for and eliminate possible UAV debris," Bocharov noted.

The russian Defense Ministry reported in the morning that overnight the air defense allegedly intercepted and destroyed 108 drones. In particular, 49 drones were allegedly shot down over the Volgograd Oblast, 29 over the Rostov Oblast, 7 over the Saratov Oblast, 3 over the Astrakhan Oblast, 2 each over the Bryansk Oblast, the Republic of Kalmykia and Tatarstan, 1 each over the Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Tula Oblasts and North Ossetia. It is also reported that 7 UAVs were allegedly shot down over the Black Sea, 1 over the Sea of ​​Azov and 1 over the temporarily occupied Crimea.

The Volgograd Oil Refinery is one of the key producers of oil products in the Southern Federal District of the russian federation and is of strategic importance for the russian military. The enterprise processes more than 15 million tons of oil per year and produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other oil products.
