US and russia in Abu Dhabi agree to resume high-level military dialogue
The United States and russia agreed today, February 5, in Abu Dhabi (UAE) to resume a high-level military dialogue. The press service of the US European Command has reported this.
The Command emphasized that the dialogue between the military will ensure de-escalation and help maintain contact while the United States and russia continue to work to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine. The re-establishment of ties follows meetings in the UAE capital between General Alexus Grynkewich, commander of the US European Command, and senior russian and Ukrainian military officials.
"Following the productive and constructive progress towards President Trump's goal of peace in Ukraine made by Jared Kushner and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff over the past week, the U.S. and Russian Federation agreed today in Abu Dhabi to reestablish high level military-to-military dialogue," the statement said.
General Grynkewich also has existing authority as Supreme Allied Commander Europe to maintain a military dialogue with russian Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov to avoid miscalculations and unintended escalation on either side. The Command recalled that this communication channel was terminated in the fall of 2021, just before the start of the full-scale russian invasion.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 5, US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said that during the talks in Abu Dhabi, the delegations of Ukraine, russia and the United States reached an agreement on the exchange of 314 prisoners.
