As of Sunday morning, February 1, 1,000 houses in Kyiv still remain without heating. At night, heat was restored to 1,500 high-rise buildings. This was reported by the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, on his Telegram channel.

"Last night, more than 1,500 more high-rise buildings in the capital were connected to the heating system, which were left without heat due to an emergency situation in the energy system of Ukraine. Currently, 1,000 houses remain without heating," Klitschko wrote.

The mayor emphasized that utility workers and energy specialists continue to work to restore heat to the apartments of Kyiv residents.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 31, the power suddenly went out across the country, and interruptions in heating and water began due to a power outage. The cause of the large-scale failure was a technological failure. According to Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, two main lines were simultaneously disconnected: a 400 kV line between the power systems of Romania and Moldova, as well as a 750 kV line between the Western and Central parts of Ukraine. This provoked a cascade shutdown in the network and the activation of automatic protection systems at substations. Due to the accident, it was necessary to unload the units of nuclear power plants. Vitali Klitschko said that after a large-scale accident in the power system of Ukraine, the capital's utilities are gradually restoring the supply of water, heat and electricity to the homes of Kyiv residents.
