Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has officially announced the need to prepare the population and government agencies for a possible military scenario around the island. It is reported by Bloomberg.

This decision was made amid rising geopolitical tensions and recent statements by US President Donald Trump. The Prime Minister explained that although the risk of a direct clash remains low, it cannot be completely ignored.

"It’s not likely there will be a military conflict, but it can’t be ruled out," Nielsen emphasized, adding that the authorities are obliged to act proactively and inform citizens about all possible threats.

A special working group is being set up in Greenland to implement the defense preparedness plan, which will include representatives of all key local authorities. The main task of this group will be to develop and disseminate recommendations for households

The authorities recommend that islanders have at least five days' worth of food and water at home. According to the government, such self-preparation is a necessary precaution in the context of difficult international relations

The situation has escalated after Donald Trump criticized Denmark for allegedly ignoring the russian threat in the Arctic region and said it was "time to change the approach" to Greenland's security.

The Minister of Finance of the island of Múte, Bourup Egede, confirmed that Greenland is under significant external pressure and should be prepared for various scenarios. At the same time, some European politicians responded to the American leader's encroachment with harsh words, and NATO assured that the Alliance's capabilities are sufficient to protect the island from russia or China.

"We have to be proactive and inform citizens about possible risks," Nielsen concluded

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump stated that the United States needs Greenland for the Golden Dome and NATO, he added, should pave the way to it. In addition, he noted that he was taking US military power to a new level.

Trump also made another statement on Greenland after his conversation with NATO chief Mark Rutte, accusing Denmark of inaction amid the "Russian threat."

EU Chief Diplomat Kaja Kallas stressed that only russia and China benefit from disagreements within NATO. She emphasized that the issue has distracted from the "main task" of ending the russian-Ukrainian war.

Meanwhile, the US administration discussed the option of paying a one-time aid to Greenlanders as part of a campaign to discuss the island's accession to the United States. While only 17% of Americans approve of Trump's efforts to gain Greenland, and a significant majority of Democrats and Republicans oppose the use of military force to annex the island.
