EU Chief Diplomat Kaja Kallas emphasized that only russia and China benefit from disagreements within NATO. She emphasized that the issue distracted from the "main task" - ending the russian-Ukrainian war.

She wrote about this on X.

"China and Russia must be having a field day. They are the ones who benefit from divisions among Allies," Kallas said

She emphasized that when Greenland's security is at stake, countries can "address this inside NATO. Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity," Kallas added.

"We also cannot let our dispute distract us from the our core task of helping to end Russia’s war against Ukraine," the politician emphasized.

Today, on January 18, the European Union is set to hold an emergency meeting of ambassadors. This is due to US President Donald Trump's statement about new tariffs on Greenland.

On January 13, the US Congress introduced a bill on the possible annexation of Greenland and granting the island the status of an American state. Its author, Republican Randy Fine, suggests that Trump could start negotiations with Denmark and further amend federal legislation.

US President Donald Trump stated that the United States needs Greenland for the Golden Dome and NATO, he added, should pave the way to it. In addition, he noted that he was taking US military power to a new level.
