A little used. Trump receives Nobel Peace Prize - Reuters
The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, Maria Corina Machado, presented the medal of the award to US President Donald Trump, noting his role and understanding of the situation in Venezuela. This is reported by Reuters.
According to the agency, Machado presented the medal during a personal meeting with the American leader. She emphasized that she had the opportunity to discuss with Trump the expectations and hopes of Venezuelan society in one of the most difficult periods for the country.
At the same time, Machado did not specify whether Donald Trump officially accepted the award.
Reuters notes that according to the rules of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, after the announcement of the laureate, the prize cannot be canceled, transferred or shared with other persons, and the decision to award it is final.
The agency also recalls that there have been precedents in history for the transfer of Nobel medals. In particular, in 1943, Nobel Prize laureate in Literature Knut Hamsun presented his medal to Nazi Germany's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.
Earlier, María Corina Machado stated that she considers Donald Trump's contribution to democratic change in Venezuela to be historically important, and proposed symbolically sharing the Nobel Peace Prize with him.
Machado received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize "for her consistent work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and the fight for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy." She is a former member of the National Assembly of Venezuela, founder of the public organization "Súmate", leader of the Vente Venezuela party and one of the key figures in the pro-democracy movement against the regime of Nicolás Maduro.
What is known about Trump's desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize
In October 2025, the Norwegian Nobel Committee named the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. The award was awarded to Venezuelan politician Maria Corina Machado, recognizing her long and consistent work in defense of the democratic rights of Venezuelan citizens and efforts aimed at a peaceful and just transition of the country from dictatorship to democracy.
However, US President Donald Trump stated that he had expected to receive this award. He was explained that the decision to award the prize was made long before the public announcement of the laureate, when Trump was just beginning his second presidential term.
