Norway has sent two armed forces officers to Greenland to increase its military presence and security in the country. The Norwegian Ministry of Defense confirmed this to VG on Wednesday, January 14.

Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik said that the Alliance is currently engaged in a dialogue to strengthen security in the Arctic, as well as in and around Greenland.

"No conclusions have been drawn yet, but we are making assessments in dialogue with our allies. In this context, Norway has decided to send two people from the Armed Forces to Greenland to determine further cooperation between the allies," the Norwegian Defense Minister said.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said that his country has also sent military reinforcements to Greenland in close cooperation with NATO and its Nordic counterparts, and that the number and activity of exercises will be increased from now on. In addition, officers of the Swedish Armed Forces have arrived in Greenland as part of a group of several allied countries. According to Bild, Germany will send soldiers to Greenland next week.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 14, US President Donald Trump said that Greenland is necessary for the United States for the Golden Dome.

On January 13, Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said that Greenland does not want to be part of the United States.

As a reminder, NATO countries are considering launching a separate joint mission to monitor and ensure security in the Arctic region, in particular around Greenland.
