German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier sharply criticized US foreign policy under President Donald Trump over the ouster of Nicolás Maduro from power in Venezuela. It was reported by Reuters on Thursday, January 8.

Steinmeier emphasized that global democracy is currently under attack as never before. According to him, the behavior of the United States is the second turning point after the annexation of Crimea by the aggressor country and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"Then there is the breakdown of values by our most important partner, the USA, which helped build this world order. It is about preventing the world from turning into a den of robbers, where the most unscrupulous take whatever they want, where regions or entire countries are treated as the property of a few great powers," Steinmeier said.

Active intervention is needed in threatening situations, and countries such as Brazil and India should be ready to defend the world order, the German president said.
