US shows footage of capture of second shadow fleet vessel in a day
The United States has detained a sanctioned shadow fleet tanker in the Caribbean Sea. It was reported by the US Southern Command on its X-account on Wednesday, January 7.
"In a pre-dawn action this morning, the Department of War, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, apprehended a stateless, sanctioned dark fleet motor tanker without incident," the statement said.
"The interdicted vessel, M/T Sophia, was operating in international waters and conducting illicit activities in the Caribbean Sea. The U.S. Coast Guard is escorting M/T Sophia to the U.S. for final disposition," the statement said.
As part of Operation Southern Spear, the Department of War said it is fulfilling its mission to disrupt illegal activities in the Western Hemisphere. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said that "the blockade of sanctioned and illicit Venezuelan oil remains in full effect - enywhere in the world."
