Energoatom to sell electricity to Ukrenergo through special auctions
The government has updated the mechanism for purchasing electricity for its own needs. NEC Ukrenergo, namely, the Energoatom national nuclear power generating company, will sell electricity through special auctions under bilateral agreements.
This is stated in a message from the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The message states that this will make this component of the electricity transmission tariff more predictable, thus there will be grounds for a smaller increase in the transmission tariff.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the corresponding changes to the Procedure for conducting electronic auctions for the sale of electricity under bilateral agreements.
It is noted that under the new rules, Energoatom will sell electricity for the needs of NEC Ukrenergo, in particular to cover technological losses, at the forecasted price formed on based on weighted average market indicators, rather than short-term price fluctuations, which, in turn, will reduce costs in the electricity transmission tariff, which directly affects the final price for all non-household consumers.
Thus, the sale of electricity for the needs of Ukrenergo will be carried out through special short-term electronic sessions with the possibility of applying a 30% discount from the weighted average market price.
This mechanism will operate exclusively for the period of martial law and does not require additional expenditures from the state budget.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Power Generation of Ukraine has decided to increase tariffs for businesses for electricity transmission from January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026 by 4% to UAH 713.68 per MWh (currently the tariff is UAH 686.23 per MWh), and from April 1 to the end of 2026 - by 8.3% to UAH 742.91 per MWh.
