US troops in Ukraine to be topic of negotiations in Paris - Bloomberg

On Tuesday, European leaders will meet with US representatives in Paris, where they plan to finalize an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine. One of the key issues is the possibility of the presence of US troops on Ukrainian territory as a tool to ensure compliance with future peace agreements. This is reported by Bloomberg.

The meeting will be hosted by Emmanuel Macron, and Donald Trump's envoys - Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner - will arrive from the US. Also among the participants will be British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European officials. The main topic is how to combine Washington's new proposals with the plans of European allies.

The specific location or role of the US military has not yet been determined. The format of a multinational "support force" is being discussed, where the Ukrainian army will hold the front, and partners will help in the rear. In addition, the US is ready to provide technical assistance to monitor the ceasefire, including through satellite and drone reconnaissance.

"The US is also ready to help monitor the ceasefire, including by providing intelligence, the sources said. Drones and satellites will be used to detect violations."

The publication's sources call the US readiness to participate with troops and intelligence an important step that European countries have been seeking for the past year. Ukraine, the EU and the US plan to agree on a common position before involving russia in the negotiations, although the Kremlin's reaction to such conditions remains unknown.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 5, the European Union announced progress on security guarantees for Ukraine, but will not provide additional information before the start of the Coalition of the Willing meeting.

On January 3, national security advisers from a number of European countries arrived in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

As a reminder, on December 30, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that national security advisers from the Coalition of the Willing countries would meet in Ukraine on January 3, and coalition leaders would meet in France on January 6.
