A 23-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained at Warsaw Chopin Airport after being found to be in possession of a device for suppressing radio signals. This was reported by the Polish publication Rzeczpospolita.

According to the newspaper, the detention took place on December 26. The device operated in frequency ranges reserved for aviation communications, radar and navigation.

The man's behavior caught the attention of the security service - he spent about six hours in a cafe in the waiting room, ordering drinks and snacks and using a laptop. Whether he had visited the airport before will be determined after analyzing surveillance camera recordings.

During the detention, the man was unable to convincingly explain the purpose of his visit to the airport and why he needed a jamming device. According to the publication's interlocutors, he refused to answer questions about his occupation, property or criminal record. Initially, the detainee claimed to be a military serviceman, later a businessman, and also claimed to be permanently residing in Canada.

Prosecutor Piotr Skiba noted that the suspect's explanations at the initial stage of the investigation were not confirmed.

On December 27, the Warsaw District Court partially granted the prosecutor's request and took the man into custody for one month. According to the investigation, this time is necessary to examine the detainee's laptop and phone, as well as to establish the capabilities and purpose of the device.

The man is accused of attempting to commit acts that threaten the safety of air traffic. He denies his guilt. Among the versions of the investigation are the possibility of sabotage, espionage, or checking the response time of the security services. It is noted that Chopin Airport is an object of critical infrastructure in Poland, so the case is being investigated with special attention.

Earlier, a Ukrainian was detained in Poland who threatened to set houses on fire because of the law on assistance.
