Trump said that US needs Greenland for national security, not for minerals

US President Donald Trump said that the United States "needs Greenland" for national security, not for minerals.

He told reporters, Rapid Response 47 reports.

"Greenland is necessary for our national security. It has a very small population. And, I don't know, they say about Denmark, but Denmark doesn't spend any money there, they don't have military defense. They say that Denmark was there 300 years ago or something, with boats. Well, we were there with boats, I'm sure. So we'll have to figure all that out," Trump said.

The US President said that the country needs Greenland for national security, not for minerals: "We have so many mineral deposits, oil and everything else. We have more oil than any other country in the world."

"We need Greenland for national security. And if you look at Greenland, you see russian and Chinese ships sailing all over the place. We have to get it," he said.

Recall that Trump previously appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as his Special Envoy to Greenland on December 22. Denmark summoned the US Ambassador and also expressed outrage over Landry's support for Trump's goal of making Greenland part of the United States.
